I am an ADHD expert having co-founded, with Dr. Edward Halllowell, one of the largest ADHD centers in California. I am also a three-time CEO and senior corporate executive with my own executive function challenges that I have overcome. In addition, I am a PAAC-certified ADHD coach. I graduated from Yale and received two Master’s degrees from Stanford. But I always struggled with organization, losing things, and attention to detail. And my career ran into a wall when I could no longer hide these issues from my work colleagues.
In my 30s, after a painful job demotion, I went to see a psychologist who old me that I had strong ADHD symptoms, I went on a self-imposed course of building “compensating mechanisms” for my weaknesses. I had to admit to myself that my brain was really rotten at some things and that I had to take special measures to overcome these challenges. I used alarms and notifications for all my deadlines, I rigorously updated my prioritized To Do List and built a reputation for being early for meetings. I also made sure that I took on roles that played to my strengths. From that point on, my career took off: I rose to Senior Vice-President at Kaplan, one of the world’s largest education companies and then served as chief executive at two subsidiaries. On the side, I coached and tutored high school students. I also started a family and am very happily married with three wonderful teenage kids.
I teach my clients what I had to learn for myself: to play to their strengths and build structure and compensating mechanisms to overcome their executive function challenges. I love passing on my learning and seeing my clients make rapid progress. I decided to start my own practice to make research-based, ADHD treatments delivered by highly qualified coaches and therapists available more widely. We aim to make this a practice that serves clients across the U.S. and around the world.
