What is body doubling?

Body doubling is an anti-procrastination strategy: another person’s supportive presence helps anchor your attention and create momentum.

Think of studying with a friend at the library—or having someone online with you while you tackle homework, studying, paperwork, emails, or other tasks you've been avoiding.

You don’t need someone to tell you how to do the work. You just need someone physically or virtually in your corner to anchor your attention and make task initiation bearable.

Why it works

Why does body doubling work?

For people who struggle to get started, the presence of another person can make a huge difference. Instead of relying entirely on your own motivation, you have someone there helping you begin, stay on track, and keep going.

1. It helps you start.

The hardest part is the first five minutes. Having someone with you lowers the bar for beginning.

2. It helps you stay on track.

When your attention drifts to your phone or a rabbit hole, someone being there makes it easier to notice and come back.

3. It helps you finish.

Motivation dips in the middle of a hard task. A friendly person nearby helps you push through and notice when you are done.

Why willpower isn’t the problem: ADHD is an executive function regulation challenge, not a character flaw. Body doubling provides an external neurological structure so your brain doesn’t have to generate 100% of the activation energy on its own.

The Resilience Difference

What makes ResilienceADHD's body doubling different?

Most body doubling sites put you in a video room with strangers. Here, an ADHD coach works with you one-on-one.

A professional coach stays with you

You're not simply logging into a room with strangers.

On commercial apps, you’re working next to random users. Your coach knows ADHD, keeps the session on track and helps when you get stuck.

Sessions are customized

We'll experiment with timed work periods, task-based goals, breaks, and other approaches until we find what works best for you.

ADHD attention is not one-size-fits-all. Some clients thrive on 15-minute high-tempo micro-sprints; others need a 45-minute continuous deep flow or low-stimulation silent companionship. We adapt to your energy rhythms.

Built-in accountability

We can schedule recurring sessions so body doubling becomes something you actually use—not another tool you intend to use someday.

Overcoming ‘out-of-sight, out-of-mind’ (ADHD object permanence). Instead of buying a subscription and forgetting it exists, we lock regular anchors into your calendar so showing up is frictionless and automatic.

Optional reporting

With the client's permission, parents or referring professionals can receive updates on participation.

Ideal for high school students, college attendees, or individuals collaborating with a therapist, psychiatrist or school counselor. Transparent progress summaries keep your support team aligned without adding nagging.

Note: We created this service because standard body-doubling platforms often miss what people with ADHD actually need.

Our team is here to help you break tasks into manageable steps and build focus routines tailored to your sensory needs.

Questions about body doubling

Body doubling sounds odd until you try it. Here’s what people ask first.

Body doubling means working alongside another person, in the room or on video, so it’s easier to start and finish a task. The other person doesn’t do your work or tell you how to do it. Their presence is the tool.

Many people with ADHD say it helps, especially with getting started. Formal research is still limited, so it’s best described as a practical strategy with strong real-world support, not a proven treatment. It works for a simple reason: being accountable to somebody, anybody, is a strong motivator.

You tell your coach what you’re working on and pick a work interval. Some people like 15-minute sprints, others 45 minutes straight. Sessions are 60 or 90 minutes. Your coach stays on video with you, helps if you get stuck and checks in at the end.

Anything you’ve been putting off: homework, studying, email, paperwork, taxes. Everybody has some tasks they struggle to get started on, and those are the ones to bring.

For some adults, a free group site is enough. For teens, those rooms aren’t a comfortable fit, which is why one-on-one works better. A coach knows ADHD, remembers what you’re working on and can step in when you stall.

Yes. Teens who fall behind often feel overwhelmed and defeated, and many stop trying. Body doubling is one of the most helpful strategies for a teen in that spot. With the client’s permission, parents or a referring professional can get updates on participation.

A 60-minute session with one of our body doubling coaches is $30, and a 90-minute session is $45. No long-term contracts. Book at least 24 hours ahead. Sessions can’t be refunded or made up.

Yes. Your first 60-minute session is free, one per person. Enter your email and we’ll send you a code to use when you book. You’ll need to add a card when you book, but you won’t be charged for the free hour.
